Cosmetic Surgery: What To Look For In A Surgeon
If someone is considering plastic surgery, it’s a big step. What sorts of things should you be looking for when trying to find a qualified plastic surgeon and the right person for you?
There are a few key steps to make sure you’re getting somebody who is competent to treat you. The most important is ensuring that the surgeon is registered with the GMC with a subspecialty interest in plastic surgery. I am, as are many of my colleagues in the NHS. This is important in the private sector because it’s not required there — so you must check that the surgeon you are seeing is a board-certified plastic surgeon. The GMC website can tell you this.
When you reach that level of competence, you can be sure you’ll be treated well by that surgeon. They will be trained in all aspects of plastic surgery, and while many plastic surgeons have subspecialty interests — specialising in particular areas of the body — all would be qualified to treat all aspects of plastic surgery.
